Why Dry Locs

The best thing for dry locs is hydration, hydration, hydration. We all know the importance of drinking plenty of liquids, preferably water. Our bodies are made mostly of water. The first step to combating dry locs is drinking water. Make sure you are plenty hydrated. Your hair will definitely see the benefits of drinking water. The second thing is the possibility that you need to wash your hair more. Many things can play a factor in dry locs: diet, water intake, environmental changes, and your daily activities, the type of shampoo used, color, bleach, and buildup.

WATER

You might have a low intake of water. If your insides are dry, so is the outside. Drink plenty of water. You are made mostly of water, so it is important to replenish it. Be advised that if you do not drink tap water, you should not put it on your scalp. Try using pH-balanced water with lemon. The lemon provides life to your water and will help the body retain it better.

Moisturize

Are you moisturizing your locs? How you moisturize also affects your locs. There is a misconception that oil alone will moisturize your hair. Oil acts as a sealant when applied to the scalp. When moisturizing your hair, use a moisturizing spray such as rose water or aloe vera juice. Once you spray your hair with the conditioning spray, massage it in if you are able to. After using your conditioning spray, apply a light oil such as jojoba oil to your scalp and hair and massage it in. The oil will lock in the conditioning spray you applied. This should be done on predominantly clean hair. When you apply oil to your hair and it's dirty, the oil will also seal in the dirt.

Color

When you color your hair, you are using very harsh chemicals. These chemicals purpose is to penetrate into the hair shaft to change the pigment of your hair. Bleach is a very strong chemical and can definitely lead to dry and broken locs.

Buildup

Buildup will also lead to dry locs. Once your hair is dirty, there is basically a layer of dirt and debris sitting on top of your locs. Once this happens, it is more difficult to moisturize your hair, and at this time, it is time for a shampoo.
